About SMA Motion

What is SMA Motion?

It’s a simple way to move more and feel better every single day. Plus, you can earn points each day by meeting three “FIT” walking goals. Depending on your SMA Motion program, the specifics of your FIT goals and points might vary. Here's one example:

Frequency 5-minute walk, 4 times a day* 3 points
Intensity 2,000 steps in 30 minutes 3 points
Tenacity at 10,000 total steps
at 7,000 total steps
at 4,000 total steps
3 points
2 points
1 points

*walks must be a minimum of 300 steps in 5 minutes, and at least one hour apart.

In this example, members can earn up to 9 points each day.

Why the FIT goals?

Frequency: Sitting for long periods of time (whether at your desk or on the couch) can lead to serious health problems, even if you exercise. To avoid being an "active couch potato," you need to get up and walk around for five minutes every hour or so.

Intensity: Studies show that people who get 30 minutes of moderate activity each day have healthier lives. Plain and simple.

Tenacity: People who go for big challenges get the biggest results, and taking 10,000 steps a day has been shown to be a great way to stretch yourself.

Will my information be available to my doctor?

Yes, by participating in SMA Motion, you agree to allow your doctor to view your steps and goals.

If you have been diagnosed with congestive heart failure, please review our walking guidelines for CHF patients before trying to meet the standard FIT goals.
